Sandbar is my FAVORITE non waterfront hangout. Whether you just got off work, or are just bored in the middle of a day off, their Happy hour from 11am to 9pm is PHENOMINAL! It caters to every type of individual - from the beer drinkers, to the wine, to the cocktails, to the more college-esq jello shots! While they don't have the best food if you catch them off guard during the day, every time I have ordered food there (wings, sandwiches, app platters, and I LOVE the potato balls) it has been great and I take my leftovers (you will have some which is great for the price) home for later! YES it is predominantly a bar and YES there are some regulars and characters that you will meet, but everyone is incredibly kind and open to every individual that passes through that threshold. They tend to make drinks strong so if you order a double I recommend you ask for it in a pint glass ;-). ALSO they have fun activities throughout the week from trivia, to dj's, to karaoke - all with deals to match! So whether you are looking to kill time, or just want to swap stories with an interesting stranger, or just want a place to pound down a few drinks before heading downtown for some clubbing...THIS PLACE HAS IT ALL!

Okay so I am a foodie. I spend a lot of time on the road as a sales rep and I eat out all over the state and into Georgia. I have eaten at restaurants ranging from Capital Grill to hole in the walls. I have my favorite for each city. Hands down the cook named 'Fish' is by far the best cook I have found in a small restaurant. I would put him up against any of the chefs from any of the restaurants I have eaten in. If I was going to start a restaurant I would want him to be the cook. If he were to go to another restaurant I'd follow him for my meals as well. PS. The bartender Lisa kicks butt too.

Nice clean place with friendly service. Potato chips are made here and very good. Plenty of tv's for news and sports. Twelve draft beer selections. Cold beer. Had the hot ham and cheese wrap, delicious. Overall, good experience.

Not the best experience here, ordering drinks was a task with the bartneders being more concerned on catching up with friends and taking their own shots. Drinks were decent and atmosphere was so so, overall not terrible but not great. Give it a shot for drinks maybe the wait staff will be different on your visit.

Drinks were well priced and we'll made. However the food took forever to arrive and was OK both times i have eaten there. Definitely more of a drinking spot for happy hour or after dinner in my opinion.

The only redeeming quality about this place is that they were open past 11:00 on a rainy night when I didn't want to travel too far from home. Beers were moderately priced but fireball is $8.00 a shot. Service was friendly, the place was filthy, run down, and full of obnoxious patrons

Tried this place for the first time during lunch today. My experience was similar to a few other reviews- I was surprised, but in a good way. The location SEEMS to be in a perfect spot because of all the traffic that passes by...however, that is just it- the traffic is passing (and quickly) towards another destination. We showed up at 11:45 and there wasn't a single car in the parking lot. My GF suggested they may be closed and we should try again another day. Nah, the neon lights were on. Walking in was a surprise- I expected it to be more rundown and like a dive bar. Very clean and a large section appeared updated. The food itself was surprisingly good and the prices were average/fair. I had some wings that were really good compared to others and a Caesar salad. My GF had a buffalo chicken sandwich- it rivaled other great ones (Wing House, Press Box) that we have had. The service was also great...but again, we were the only people in the restaurant from the time we walked in until leaving an hour later. Kind of sad, actually. Maybe they get really busy and focus on the evening crowd. I had to head into work, so no drinks this time around. We will return if back in the area.

I'm not really into being hammered at 3 in the afternoon, but if you're into that this is your place. Cheap drinks though.

Nobody greeted us upon arrival and they weren't busy at all, they need to invest in a hostess. We had to go ask for menus after sitting down and no one came over. The bartender was very nice though and came over to take our orders and he brought us excellent inexpensive food. Other than no service upon entry, we loved this place. Great happy hour deals until 9pm. I would have given the sandbar 5 stars if someone had greeted us. Will still most certainly come back though!

Hands down the best bar/restaurant in North St. Petersburg. Great drink specials...$1 PBR drafts during happy hour, good food, good music, great pool tables and cool owners.

Great local bar in N St Pete. Cheap drink, exceptionally good food for being a bar (the ghost pepper grilled cheese w/ tomato and bacon is amazing), friendly staff, pool tables .. What more could you want..

Be very careful when getting food here. Ordered delivery from here through grub hub. I ordered the fried coconut shrimp and the buffalo chicken sandwich. The sandwich was ok but was low quality chicken. More tendons than actual meat. The shrimp looked good and the batter made it seem like it was cooked but after eating the first one I realized the shrimp was not cooked all the way through. I threw the rest in the garbage. Usually I can handle raw shrimp but I have been stuck in the bathroom for over an hour violently vomiting every 10-15 minutes. I don't usually write reviews but this is ridiculous. Hopefully I can get to work tomorrow.

The absolute worst lunch experience ever. There were three other patrons and we were told that the restaurant was busy for an explanation of why our food took an hour to prepare. (we were the first lunch order) When it arrived, it was cold, burned, fish advertised as Grouper was not Grouper. One "server" that was actually having drinks at the bar before we received our order later brought us something that we did not order and was angry at us glaring our direction the rest of our visit...back at the bar drinking. If your on your way back from the beach and want to stop off for a couple beers fine...but do not go expecting to eat and or enjoy the food or atmosphere.

Good place for cheap drinks and decent bar food. The patrons vary and can get interesting depending on when you go, but I've never felt uncomfortable or unsafe. Staff is friendly, buffalo wings are good, and the beer is cheap.

So the Sandbar has potential but right now is a little stuck in the sand. Exterior: For so many places the exterior makes or breaks it because it establishes whether people want to come in or not, whether it is cool or not. This place sits at the corner of 4th and Gandy in a little island that should have traffic crashing through their door in a good way. But it doesn't. The exterior looks like a dive/biker/pirate bar. First it is a wierd blue dingy building with no sign facing the busy road which is Gandy. As you drive by, all you see if a wierd looking building with a skull and crossbones on it. The first time I drove by it had 3 Harleys in front. While I have nothing against Harleys, the implication with the skull and crossbones is that it is a biker bar and that is generally not woman friendly. However, this is not the case at all. If you go from the other direction, then it has wave runners just rotting out front. I call this salvage not signage. Interior: OK now this is much better but still not great. This is a restaurant layout not a bar but they tend to opperate it as a bar. There is a divider between dining rooms that forces patrons to walk by the bathroom and makes getting around a little wierd. There are tons of bar games and a very small bar at one end. It is now how I would set it up. It is also so-so on cleanliness. But otherwise it is decently nice and a comfortable place to be. Food: Now this was a surprise. The food is inexpensive and goes a step beyond bar food into sligtly gourmet. I mean look, this is a place that you expect to fry everything and they offer artichoke and spinach soup in a bread bowl. They have crab cakes and vanilla sweet potato fries. And the highest priced thing on the menu is the Ribeye which costs $15. You can barely buy a ribeye in a store for that price. But the most astonishing thing for us was that it was really good and that at lunchtime on a saturday noone was there. So either it was a fluke which I doubt because all of our 4 entrees were great or noone has tried the food! Seriously... It is good. Drinks: These were pretty standard. They have a decent selection of beer and a full liquor bar. Things are reasonably priced but nothing to write home about. The main thing is that their happy hour runs from monday through friday from 4-9 pm. That is a really long happy hour and makes this place popular with the 20's and 30's crowd. Service: Here is where it falls short. We went there for dinner and got NO service. So... we walked out. When we went for lunch, the bartender served us and wasn't bad. But there were very few people there to take her time. So I would not go here for dinner since we walked out of dinner at 7 pm on a friday. Overall: If you are going out for lunch give it a shot. If you need an after work watering hole then give it a shot. If you want a nice and peaceful dinner then skip it.
